The shift towards animal-free methods is accelerating as collaboration across scientific, regulatory, industrial, and policy sectors continues. With funding from Humane World for Animals, the BioMed21 Collaboration has joined with Utrecht University to create an open-access, e-learning course in human-centered experimental design. Our new course will enable investigators to develop animal-free research strategies and leverage state-of-the-art tools in predictive human biology.
The course, set to launch online later this year, includes a series of recorded lectures on key topics and concepts along with case studies from global thought leaders. In addition, participants will have access to recommended reading materials and additional resources, including curated videos and interactive tools.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion, with formal accreditation currently planned. The course structure follows a logical learning progression and is designed for global accessibility through open, distance learning.
The course is suitable for:
- Early career researchers
- Principal investigators
- Educators and lecturers
- Funding bodies
- Animal ethics committee members
- Editorial boards and grant reviewers
- The broader scientific community
